Marriage Restoration

First, let us look at how marriage and restoration are defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

  • Marriage is defined as "the state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law."

  • Restoration is defined as "an act of restoring or the condition of being restored: such as a bringing back to a former position or condition."

The bible describes marriage as a covenant (promise) made between one man (husband) and one woman (wife) before God to one another until death do they part.

Additionally, the biblical meaning of the word "restoration" is to receive back more than has been lost to the point where the final state is greater than the original condition. The main point is that someone or something is improved beyond measure.*

What is Marriage Restoration?

Marriage restoration is for one that is believing for God to move on one's behalf to restore their covenant marriage. Whether the current status of the marriage is broken, hopeless, "dead" or even consists of separation, divorce, infidelity or adultery.

Marriage restoration can occur even if there is only one spouse praying.

This restoration journey often times is when one spouse becomes an intercessor before God on behalf of your marriage, your spouse, your family, and their salvation.

  • It is humbling one's self and petitioning God's heart, love, will, mercy, grace and power for restoring, resurrecting, reconciling, rekindling, and reigniting one's marriage.

  • God created marriage. God is the god of love. He wants to do a miracle in your life, your spouse, your marriage, your family and your home.

  • It is "dying" to one's self, one's desires, one's emotions, and one's thoughts in order to receive the supernatural miracle God wants to do in your life, your spouse, your marriage and your children.

  • It is surrendering every area of your life to God and getting out of His way, so that He can change you first and foremost, by building that intimate relationship He wants with you and bringing back to life what is now "dead" or hopeless in your marriage.

Most important of all, this journey is for you, the one, knowing God can and will restore your marriage, to find and grow in that intimate relationship with your Beloved Heavenly Husband (yes, male or female you are His bride). There is no greater purpose for this restoration journey than for you to find your First Love. He wants to be put back on His rightful place as #1 in your heart. Once He has is allowed to take His rightful place, watch what only He can do!!! Watch your restoration take place. For nothing is too hard or impossible for Him (Luke 1:37).

The journey or process to marriage restoration can often times seem lonely, challenging, a mental battle, and yet it is a rewarding one. You are fighting against the enemy who has come to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). The enemy wants to destroy everything that God has ordained, this includes you, your spouse, your marriage, your children, your health and your home.

Ponder this for a moment, if you, your spouse, your marriage, or your children were not a threat to the enemy and his kingdom, do you think he would do everything he could to destroy it? NO!!! If none of this was a threat, he would have left it alone and not attacked with full force. You, your spouse, your marriage and your children are a threat to the kingdom of darkness. You are a mighty child of God, a mighty warrior, and a vessel for the Kingdom of God. Jeremiah 29:11 declares, "for I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

During those moments of defeat, doubt, and self destruction, remember that is the enemy, the father of lies, and the king of darkness. Defeat the enemy by declaring God's word, just as Jesus did, when the enemy tried to tempt Him. Ephesians 6:12 declares, "for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

Declare the victory, promises and blessings God has spoken to you regarding your marriage restoration. Remember, it will happen in God's perfect timing, for some it is quick and for some it takes a little longer. The key is to NOT QUIT on God because it has not happened the exact way and time you think it should. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD (Isaiah 55:8).

God thrives in bringing back to life what was once "dead." Where there is no hope, that is when God shines the most. When we decide that we are powerless, have no control and cannot do it on our own, God steps in and says "trust Me, let me take over My child, let Me take the yoke/burden off of your shoulders and rest!
